Civil Rights…And Other Piles Of Stuff!

Play the clip and read along:

Andy Sacks: this stuff and uh…

Miranda Priestly:

‘This…stuff’? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You…logged
on before your nice hipster job & you select, I don’t know, only lusty blue links, for instance,
because you’re trying to tell the world you take yourself to seriously care about what happens to anyone else. But…

What you don’t know is this ‘stuff’ isn’t just about them. It’s not about those people. It’s not about these people. It’s actually about you.

And you’re also so blithely unaware of the fact in 2012, Jonathan Capehart wrote in the Washington Post about a particularly racist tweet against the President.

And then I think it was Rachel Maddow, wasn’t it… who did a segment on race & Romney? I thought they needed the DOJ there.

And then civil right conversations quickly showed up in all of the prime time Newscasts. And then, uh, filtered down through the network morning shows and then trickled on down into some tragic 7 pm Glossy-Tele-Zine where, no doubt, you planned to fast forward through it anyway.

However, what you glossed over impacts millions of jobs in countless states
& it’s sort of comical how you have no idea
about the very policy that exempts you from being fired just for being gay
when, in fact, your job security
was only made possible by votes
of those who deigned to read a story,
that was selected by people in this room,
…from a pile of ‘stuff.”

Actually, your job is only safe in the 21 states that actually have LGBT protection. In the other 29 states, who we love could get us fired…legally.

Shit happens…stuff matters
